2.1 A numbered page

This is 2.1 — the first page of chapter 2. A page becomes numbered simply by giving it an order: in its frontmatter; the sidebar then shows chapter.page (here, 2.1).

The next item in the sidebar, 2.2.1, lives inside a sub-folder — proof that folders can nest as deep as you like, each level adding another dot to the number.
